Study Groups and Consultation
Henry Markman has led study groups for over thirty years. These include groups on Klein, Bion, Winnicott, and Ferenczi, innovations in psychoanalytic technique, French Psychoanalysis, and Latin American Psychoanalysis. He aims for a balance between close readings of crucial analytic papers and extended clinical presentation. Because our work is personal, he strives to create a safe space for the personal exploration of experience that comes up in the clinical situation. As he is not tied to one particular school, he takes a pragmatic approach in which theory grows out of the experience, integrating various theories—such as Latin American link and field theory, Middle School, British Object Relational, Relational, and contemporary Freudian. He also draws from philosophy and art in expanding the language of our clinical work.
A clinician can consider joining a study group in the process, one in the formation phase, or creating a group of colleagues. Groups and consultations are either on Zoom or in person.
